Rickenbacker Woods Museum: Where Columbus Innovation Takes Flight

The Rickenbacker Woods Museum will be located at the historic boyhood home of World War I flying ace Captain Eddie Rickenbacker in the Driving Park neighborhood of Columbus. This site—designated a National Historic Landmark—is being reimagined to honor the untold stories of innovation, courage, and community rooted in Columbus’s Black history and beyond.

We are proud to announce that we've officially entered the contract phase with Moody Nolan, the nation’s largest African American-owned architecture firm, to design the future museum and cultural learning campus at the boyhood home of World War I ace Captain Eddie Rickenbacker.

As a designated National Historic Landmark, this site will honor not only Rickenbacker’s legacy but also explore the untold stories of innovation, resilience, and community in Columbus and beyond.

Our future museum will include exhibits on:
  • Captain Eddie V. Rickenbacker, known as the WWI Ace of Aces, entrepreneur, hero a Columbus hero!
  • Granville T. Woods, known as the “Black Edison,” whose inventions transformed rail travel and electrical engineering.
  • The Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first Black military pilots, and their ties to the fight for freedom and equality.
  • Bessie Coleman, the first Black woman to earn a pilot’s license, breaking barriers across continents.
  • The Driving Park racetrack, where auto racing legends like Eddie Rickenbacker first took flight.
  • The Livingston Avenue corridor, a vibrant hub of resilience, culture, and invention.

This isn’t just a museum — it’s a living archive of legacy and leadership.
