As Columbus builds momentum to honor Granville T. Woods, the Rickenbacker Woods Foundation is proud to lead a citywide activation celebrating one of America’s great inventors through civic recognition, youth engagement, neighborhood investment, and public learning. Throughout the week, residents, families, seniors, students, and partners are invited to gather across multiple sites to experience history in motion and connect innovation to community.
About Granville T. Woods Week
Granville T. Woods Week is designed to honor a visionary inventor whose contributions helped shape the modern world while also connecting his legacy to the future of Columbus. This activation reflects the Rickenbacker Woods Foundation’s commitment to public history, youth learning, neighborhood pride, and community-centered investment. From senior fellowship to public dedications, from mural activations to hands-on STEAM experiences, the week invites the city to remember, celebrate, and build.

1Legacy Luncheon & Fellowship
A warm gathering of seniors for fellowship, reflection, lunch, and creative engagement during Granville T. Woods Week.
2Earth Day Ribbon Cutting at Storybook Park
Unveiling of the new mural exhibit in the park and celebration of community beautification, art, and neighborhood pride.
3Granville T. Woods Blvd. Dedication Ceremony
A civic recognition ceremony honoring Granville T. Woods on his birthday through public dedication and remembrance.
4Rickenbacker Woods Open House
Tours, exhibit viewings, campus artwork, and an opportunity to learn more about the mission and work of Rickenbacker Woods Foundation.
5Granville’s Lab STEAM Festival
A family-friendly STEAM festival featuring hands-on innovation, youth engagement, outdoor activities, music, and complimentary refreshments while supplies last.
6Grand Opening Celebration
A community investment milestone celebrating the next chapter of place-based development connected to Granville T. Woods’ legacy.
7Columbus City Schools Classroom STEAM Activation
School-based STEAM experiences extending the spirit of Granville T. Woods Week into classrooms and youth learning environments.
